Important Education Requirements

Continuing Education Deadlines

All licenses are on a two-year renewal cycle. All agents are required to complete 15 hours of approved Continuing Education ever year, for a total of 30 hours each renewal cycle. Continuing Education credits must be reported annually to your broker. Each broker is required to certify that all licensees have fulfilled their continuing education requirements each year no later than June 30.

Licenses Expiring June 30, 2008:
You must complete 30 hours, including the mandatory 1 hour of Fair Housing and 1 hour of Agency before June 30, 2008. At least 15 hours of these hours must be completed and reported to your broker before June 30, 2007. All 30 hours may be taken before June 30, 2007.

Licenses Expiring June 30, 2009:
You must complete 30 hours, including the mandatory 1 hour of Fair Housing and 1 hour of Agency before June 30, 2009. At least 15 hours of the 30 hours must be completed and reported to your broker before June 30, 2008.

Agency and Fair Housing Required Every 2 Years

You are required to complete at least 1 hour of training on Agency Law plus 1 hour of training on Fair Housing Law during every two-year period. This is a licensing requirement through the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

NAR Code of Ethics Requirement:
Effective January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2008, REALTORS are required to complete at least 2.5 hours of quadrennial ethics training. According to NAR failure to complete the required ethics training shall be considered in violation of a membership duty and REALTORS membership will be suspended until the required training is complete.
